Tuesday 14th January 2014: Inspirations from the Gospel (Mark 1:21-28)
Authority is the moral and/or legal right to exert control over others. In the Gospel reading, Jesus taught in the synagogue with authority because his words have been backed up with his actions. This influenced the people to accept his teaching even to the extent that an unclean spirit recognized the authority with which he spoke and cried out: What have you to do with us Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us?
As followers of Jesus, we are invited to teach after the example of Christ and with authority too. What authority backs what we say?
Today, our society does not need preachers whose words are backed up by legal rights. We need preachers whose words are backed by moral rights and that is what we should try to achieve each day.
As you go about your activities today, strive to have you words backed up by exemplary actions, let them be your authority and you will exert more influence on others. Take the lead. Perhaps by seeing you do the right thing you always talk about, you may convert many. May the Lord grant you a grace-filled day and may the words of your mouth today by empowered to yield positive fruits. Amen. Good morning and happy Tuesday.
