Friday, 10th Jan. 2014: Inspiration from today's Gospel (Luke 5:12-16)

When the leper saw Jesus, he recognized him with the eyes of faith as one who could make him clean. He fell prostrate before him, pleaded with him, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” In his request we see the ideal disposition for Christian prayer; submitting our will to the will of God. In asking God for that favour you have always desired, do you leave Him to exercise His will as God or do you command what He must do for you?

In the leper, we also see a good example of humility. He knows how to approach the one who can help him. How do we approach and address our superiors when we seek their favour? Are we humble enough in our dealings with people? Humility opens the door of both human and divine favours. Humility makes us say I AM SORRY, PLEASE, THANK YOU. Any of these could be the solution to your problem. Have you tried it?On the other hand, how do we respond to those who seek our favour? Do we allow our heads to swell when they prostrate before us seeking for one favour or another? Today, let us learn to be humble in our dealings with God and man and as we do this, may we be recipients of great human and divine favours today. God loves you. Good morning and happy Friday.
