Today is a Friday in Lent: Short Stations of the Cross
My dear today is a Friday in Lent. Let us join in meditating over the mysteries of the Stations of the Cross. Can
we briefly talk to God about each station?
1st Station: Jesus is condemned to death – My
condemned Jesus, when people condemn me and rain all sorts of abuses on me just
because of you, help me to stand firm.
2nd Station: Jesus carries his cross – My dying
Jesus, I understand the weight of the cross to be the weight of my sins, help
me to carry my own cross patiently following your example.
3rd Station: Jesus falls the first time – My most
beloved Jesus, by virtue of your first fall help me to overcome the sins of the
flesh which make me fall away from your grace.
4th Station: Jesus meets his afflicted mother – O
my Jesus, help me to love your mother as you did and grant that I may know her
maternal care especially when life’s journey seems difficult.
5th Station: The cross is laid on Simon of Cyrene
– Dear Jesus, help me by your grace to assist you whole heartedly in carrying
your cross and never wait to be mandated.
6th Station: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus – O
my sorrowful Jesus, Veronica consoled you by wiping your face and you left an
impression of your her countenance on her scarf. Help me to console you with my
life that all who see me may see your face in me.
7th Station: Jesus falls the second time – My weak
Jesus, help me to overcome the temptations of the world especially those that
make me less conscious of your presence.
8th Station: Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem
– O my merciful messiah, grant me the grace to be more compassionate on others
despite my own deplorable condition. May I consider others before myself.
9th station: Jesus falls the third time – O my
wounded messiah, each time the devil sets a trap for me to fall, help me to
avoid him and grant that I may always rise above my sins.
10th station: Jesus is stripped of his garment -
My redeemer, strip me of all worldly affections and help me to regard my body
as the temple of your spirit.
11th station: Jesus is nailed to the Cross – As
they nailed you to the cross, you forgave your executioners, help me o my
dearest redeemer to forgive all those who hurt me especially for your sake.
12 station: Jesus dies on the cross – O my crucified saviour,
help me to put to death all unholy desires in me which make me lose sight of
your presence.
13th station: Jesus is taken down from the cross –
O my loving Jesus, grant me the grace of a holy and happy death that at the end
of my life, I may rest in the bosom of your afflicted mother who will bring me
to you and to the dead especially those dear to me grant eternal rest.
14th station: Jesus is laid in the sepulcher –
Even at your death, these women loved you and took care of your body, grant o
Lord that I may love your body the Church and work for her good.
Christ became obedient unto death - Even to death on a cross
Let us pray – We are your children Lord, look upon us with
mercy and hear our prayer, as we meditate on the passion of your son, grant us
the grace to love him above all else and to imitate the virtues he has shown us
through Christ our Lord.
